| | | Re: Polar/grizzly bear hybridisation Don't talk such nonsense. The whole point is that as the area available for Polar bears' exclusive use diminishes, they necessarily move into areas previously occupied by other species - such as Brown/Grizzly b'ars.

One is a toothed whale that inhabits arctic waters, the other a warm water mammal who is apparently more closely related to elephants + hyraxes.
Perhaps you ought to check your facts first!

| | | Re: Polar/grizzly bear hybridisation They're referring to the Narwhal/Manatee rumpy pumpy. It's a pretty bonkers and impossible suggestion.
I've just googled this, and what I think you mean is Narwhal x Beluga, although this has not yet been recorded, but has just been suggested as a possibility (theoretical rather than potential yet, I imagine, as nobody knows if they can until happens...or doesn't). |

| | | Re: Polar/grizzly bear hybridisation OK. Hands up. My reference to the the narwhal cross was an off-the-cuff memory from the article. The main point stands though. Species that were geographically isolated are coming into contact as a result of ice-cap melting, and bio-diversity is threatened by the hybridisation that follows.

| | | Re: Polar/grizzly bear hybridisation I remember seeing a programme on channel 5 in the 'Nature Shock' series about a polar/grizzly bear hybridisation and as faz has said it came to light when an american shot a bear under licence which was not a polar bear.
The best thing about the programme was its title "Alien Ice Bear" - you gotta love Channel 5 | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
