| | Please save the badgers We need you to help us in fighting against the proposed killing of thousands of badgers in England and Wales. Unless we make our voices heard, badgers will be killed from May 2011. They will either be cage trapped and shot or shot free running despite the protection legislation afforded to them.
Please visit Badger Protection League to find out more and show you support for vaccination not exermination.

| | | Re: Please save the badgers I had a look at the site, but couldn't see how it is proposed to vaccinate all the Badgers. would they be trapped and injected? how much would it cost? and how would it be funded? |

| | Re: Please save the badgers Hi there
The vaccination is in an injectable form at the moment, though there is trails currently happening with an oral version, which seems to be having positive results.
The Government has left the farmers to deal with the problem and to pay for it themselves. One vaccine costs about £20 quid, which would actually work out cheaper than shooting, as the badger bodies must be incinerated.
The main reason though is that vaccination will have a positive impact on reducing bTB which the shooting policy will not. If you think that badgers live on average 3 to 5 years, you could pretty much treat most of them within that time period.
Also it is shown that the vaccination actually works on already infected badgers. it is not a cure but greatly reduces their infectiousness. |
