| | | Natures Top 40: How many have you seen? A few years ago the BBC produced a series about the Uks top wildlife called Natures Top 40 (website here). After a conversation I had with Dave (Pressld2) yesterday I decided to see how many I have seen, which I have emboldened on the list below:
40 - Courting Toads
39 - Wood Ants
38 - Glow Worms
37 – Foxes (courtship calls)
36 - Moth spotting (trapping)
35 - Seals
34 - Knot roost
33 - Machair flowers
29 - Rook Roost
30 - Hunting Otters
31 - Swarms of Swallows
32 – Goats (rutting)
28 - Roosting Bats
27 - Butterflies
26 - Arctic Terns (nesting)
25 - Pine Martens
24 - Parakeet roost
23 - Common Crane
22 - Birds of Prey
21 - Arachnids
20 - Puffins
19 - Autumn colours
18 - Wild orchids
17 - Minke Whales
16 - Courting Great Crested Grebes
15 - Pods of Dolphins
14 - Boxing Hares
13 - Hunting Sea Eagles
12 - Rutting deer
11 - Flocks of geese
10 - Barn Owls hunting
9 - Basking Sharks
8 - Dancing Adders
7 - Bluebells
6 - Bird Song
5 - Summer Flower Meadow
4 - Black Grouse lek
3 - Salmon migrating
2 - Starlings
1 - Gannets
A respectable 19 (not 16 or 18!) - still plenty too see though. How many have you seen?

...erm..that's 25! Wow! Thank goodness for Scotland! Some of these I didn't see in the UK so do they count? e.g Glow Worms, but they only live in New Zealand don't they?
Actually heard Black Grouse today as I walked on the Moors, didn't see them today though. Always makes me smile, such a comical sound.

The Rutting deer is a bit of a cheat as it was on a local deer farm, but still impressive! |

Being stuck in London I never get up North or to the coast much. But of the ones that I have not seen, the ones in green interest me. The Black Grouse lek really interests me, and this reminds me that I must make the effort to find a viewing point one day.
