The GCN Conservation Handbook is available for either £2 from Froglife, or free on-line. It's a very good quality short book.

Does anyone know of any other wildlife books that are available on-line, free or otherwise?

There are lots of natural history books online at: - Internet Archive: Digital Library of Free Books, Movies, Music & Wayback Machine
Admittedly, most of them are old antiquarian type, and the scientific info. may not be up-to-date. (Certainly applies in the fungi section which I browse quite a lot) - but some of these books have absolutely superb botanical illustrations, and much of the info is still current.

Note that there are also films / photos and other media, as well as books on practically every subject under the sun. - All of which can be viewed online or downloaded if wanted.

There are actually quite a few publications that can be found online as free pdf files if you search for them (usually the smaller publications, and normally those that were originally pubished some time ago, or which are intended to educate people about conservation issues).

A few examples:

Atlas of the Dragonflies of Britain and Ireland (1996). The maps are now somewhat out of date - which is why the British Dragonfly Society need all records for the current atlas project!:
