| | | Best books on Habitat management. Just looking around really, as a student I am always on the look out for good deals on books, in particular this is time on general habitat management, management on conservation. Of course I have an Indicative reading list but some of these books are not cheap! Any recommendations on the best book for you on this subject? Would like to narrow my choice to one book and pay a good price! |

| | | Re: Best books on Habitat management. BTCV has a whole series which are available online as individual chapters or parts of chapters, but also in print. I'm only familiar with the one on "Woodland Management".
Also read Oliver Rackham's two books "The History of the Countryside" and his New Naturalist on "Woodlands" for a different perspective. He is pretty critical of a lot of modern approaches to habitat management.
Probably the best way to learn is to join work parties and ask questions about why certain things are being done. Often a particular aspect of habitat management is rooted in a deep local knowledge of a site as well as broader knowledge of general principles. The site-specific aspects cannot be covered well in a general textbook, but should not be neglected. |

| | | Re: Best books on Habitat management. Thanks for your suggestions am aware of the BCTV site and yes it is good and breaks it down into sections well so you can find them. It is more for reference really and bedtime reading! |

I find it quite easy going, probably out dated methods now though (1995).

| | | Re: Best books on Habitat management. Don't forget the second hand web based books - I use ABe Books mostly - can get good bargains, but with science its usually best not to get older editions. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
