| | | Wildlife highlight of 2006 What was your wildlife highlight of the year? you must have some good ones!
Mines hard to say because I've had a really good year, but seeing 3 Ospreys together on a September evening has to be the best. I had tried to see them the year before and i'd been twice this year to see them, and then I turned up and there were 2 of the spectacular birds. I was amazed when a third flew in!
So what was your highlight?

| | | Re: Wildlife highlight of 2006 Two come to mind.
1, Finding and photographing the first ever Small Red-Eyed Damselflies to be recorded in Leicestershire.
2, Discovering a breeding colony of Long-Winged Coneheads in my own garden/meadow.
2006 was a brilliant year for insects in general, lets hope 2007 follows the same trend. |

| | | Re: Wildlife highlight of 2006 Meeting two Czech girls on my wildlife holiday in Scotland and the Orkney's and spending the week with them. They are friends for life and I holiday again with one of them again in 2007 in Ireland.
Not - seeing an adder on the North Yorks Moors. It made me feel a bit dicky

| | | Re: Wildlife highlight of 2006 My first has to be the daylight bat shots I got by the River Trent. I still don't believe it!
My second was the Owl and Jay shots at Attenborough, quite amazing behaviour.
My third I share with Steve, (Fourwings) Although I didn't discover them, I helped the next day in the count and thoroughly enjoyed it. Steve was a big help last year, showing me more insect life in a couple of meetings than I've ever seen before. I learnt a lot so thanks Steve! |

| | | Re: Wildlife highlight of 2006 Three for me. First seeing and photographing a Bittern, only the second Bittern I've seen. Secondly seeing and getting excellent photographs of a Water Rail. Thirdly taking my first photograph of a Dragonfly I might add all these were on my local patches so that made it even better for me.

| | | Re: Wildlife highlight of 2006 thinks. ok here are two.
Red Breasted Flycatcher at Gun Hill Norfolk. It was sat 10-15 feet away and just went after insects in front of 4 of us. Good supporting cast later Wryneck, Snow Goose, Red-Backed Shrike and White-Rumped Sandpiper.
seeing a Black Darter at Dersingham Bog and a Norfolk Hawker at Hickling (white Admiral the same visit).
On the patch front. Picking out the female Garganey at Rye Meads.
oh and getting a Mallard as a garden tick!! as I left the office two were sat on the opposite side of the road. they casually strolled across the road and onto my garden. YES!! |

| | | Re: Wildlife highlight of 2006 This is a difficult one as there were so many but here are a few that leap out ....
The stunning views of White-tailed Eagles on Mull and Ardnamurchan in June.
The awesome seabird colony at Handa in Sutherland also in June.
The large numbers of butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies throughout the summer.
The Bottle Nosed Dolphin that took up temporary residence off Canvey Island in Essex in June and July.
The exceptionally close up views of Pine Marten right outside our Christmas holiday accommodation just a few days ago.
Just today to go now .... any last minute highlights?

Having a photo of a sunrise published in the local paper
Seeing a unknown (to me) warbler on my local patch
Winning a silver guilt for the school garden , I help run the enviroment club for the kids
Finding and id-ing a cockchafer grub.
