| | | Re: capsule I think you're both near the mark by observational reasoning. I did note the sphagnum but thought that a growing gall might have encapsulated foliage but then couldn't think of a gall growing on sedge, grass or moss that looked like this.
My revised view is that it is a pupal case of one of the moorland moths - Emperor or Fox moth perhaps? These are spun cocoons with a detached pupa inside. Hopefully a mothy person will be along soon to proffer an opinion. |  | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
