| | | Re: Hole in Lawn I have just discovered a hole in my lawn. There was no spoil around the hole, just a clean hole in the grass. It is about 1 inch diameter and i poked a bit of flex down it over 12 inches deep, almost straight down. I am on very sandy soil (in fact 4 inches of soil in sand dune sand). My wife poured 4 watering cans of water down and the water just disappeared. I then stuck a hose down and ran it for 10 minutes - still no effect. We left a small pebble over the hole overnight and it was undisturbed. There are no other holes in the lawn. I am now going to fill it with a sand/water mix and see what happens. |

| | Re: Holes in Lawn Errr ok Kercock, am confused about the 'it is obviously very thirsty' bit, I can assure you, the summer we had here last year it definitely was never thirsty!
Just to update on this, I actually saw a badger crossing the road in front of our car when we were coming home one night, a month or so before Christmas, so I guess that's confirmation! |

Wildlife like toads hibernate in holes that mice have made what's the point in trying to flush something out like this..
Why didn't you just pour some bleach down the hole and be done with it.. |

| | | Re: Holes in Lawn Nick, lots of solitary bees and bumblebees also make holes in the ground, so it could have been a home for them. I guess the reason it took so much water is because of your sandy soil, which tends to train very quickly. |
