| | | Walk,bike or public transport Hi,
Am thinking of ditching the car and begin either Walking, cycling or using public transport to go wildlife watching, are there any other members on WAB that have done the same.
Cheers John |

| | | Re: Walk, bike or public transport Hi John,
I don't have a driving license and my other half hasn't driven for years so we always do our wildlife watching on a mixture of public transport & walking.
The only exception is recently we went to Shetland on organised tours so were driven about.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Walk, bike or public transport I don't drive either, and use public transport to get to further places, and walk to all my local spots. Hoping to get a bike soon, which will get me to places public transport won't.
I'd say go for it. It's better for you, and better for the environment. |

| | | Re: Walk, bike or public transport I'm a dog walker so see all kinds of wildlife when out and about with her especially early in the morning. I'm also lucky enough to live near to a variety of habitats within walking distance, fields, fishing lakes, a park and canal. |

I'm not trying to hijack your thread, John, but I'd encourage everyone who is physically able to get a bike.
There are many times when a journey to local supermarket is so much easier on a bike and parking is never a problem.
If you have never thought of a bike before, have a go.
Don't be put off if you think you are too old to learn to ride. I did for ages and then tried a few years ago. It was MUCH easier then I ever thought it would be.
If I can learn to ride at 56, then there is hope for everyone.
Dave

| | | Re: Walk, bike or public transport Well Dave, I'm 50 and have had a full hip replacement so if I can ride a bike, anyone can!
Actually, that puts me in mind of an old village character I knew when I was a child, he only had one leg, but he rode his bike everywhere. We called him Stalky. He would loop his one foot into a string loop tied to his pedal, and have his crutches tied to his back rather like an oversized quiver, flat cap and roll-up in mouth, and puff his way up the hill. I believe he lost his leg in WW1 and was in his 70s when I knew him. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
