| | Re: 2010 - an exceptionally bad year for bites....? my bites turn into mountains and leave a scar. to stop getting bitten I eat olives and garlic, also apply deet to my clothing (trouser bottoms, shirt cuffs and collars and outside my hat); that seems to keep most of them away. If i do get bitten and it gets to the itchy stage i give them a gentle squeeze until the spot breaks and apply a plaster with a spot of soft soap or washing up liquid on it (dont use detergent) which acts as an old fashioned poultice and draws the stuff out so it never gets to the swollen and painful stage - I can guarantee this one realy works - dont forget to keep the wound clean and wash your hands before and after. once bitten -
