| | | New Forest help please Hi
Me and a few friends that are doing a national diploma in countryside management and conservation have decided that we will go on a long weekend trip to the New Forest in August and was wondering if anyone could please tell us about the wildlife we may encounter and any good wildlife areas we should visitor.
Thanks
Robert
P.s. sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place. |

(Sorry, but I expect 'Deer Hunter' will be along soon to give you sensible advice!)

| | | Re: New Forest help please DeerStalker will invariably provide a better list, but I know that the following have been seen in the Forest recently: Red deer (Cervus elaphus); Fallow deer (Dama dama); Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus); Sika deer (Cervus nippon); Muntjac (Muntiacus reevesi); Red fox (Vulpes vulpes); European badger (Meles meles); Common buzzard (Buteo buteo); Tawny owl (Strix aluco); Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis); Red kite (Milvus milvus); adder (Vipera berus); smoothsnake (Coronella austriaca); Brown hares (Lepus europaeus); Moonwort (Botrychium lunaria); Green-winged Orchid (Orchis morio). I lose track of all the birds and insects that are around at the moment and, of course, there are the Forest cattle and ponies. What you stand a chance of seeing will depend on where abouts in the Forest you go and when you go there.
Enjoy your trip.
Cheers,
Marc. |
