What has eaten these hazel nuts

Maybe you could get a bell fitted to your moggies collar; -to give a bit more warning to the wildlife .

No, it was definitely a dormouse, have been looking up pictures of them, and my little visitor fitted the descriptions. Apart from the wheat fields behind me, this area is surrounded by woodland, so we get a lot of different wildlife. Sadly, it died yesterday afternoon, probably had internal injuries that I couldn't see, and was very weak. I was going to take it to the vet, but I didn't think it would make it, I don't drive, so would have had to wait around for buses. I had started early in the morning, giving a little warm milk and honey, used a tiny piece of cloth which I dipped in the milk and then into it's tiny little mouth. It took a little the first wo times, but the last time I tried, it was too weak even for that, and died soon after. It's just so sad, such a beautiful little creature, but that's life. I can't be too mad at the cat next door, he is just a year old and showing off his hunting prowess, he made sure that I saw what he was doing!
