There are actually 8 recorded 'white' Red Kites in Wales, so T.Cross from Gigrin Farm told me. He's our swan ringer and I chatted to him after I'd read this post. We also rehabilitate all the Red Kites that come to him injured.
Here's a link ti Gigrin if anyone wants to take a look http://www.gigrin.co.uk/w/

The photo is quite an old one, taken on an old camera. It was an RTA (Road Traffic Accident) badger which made a FULL recovery. I say FULL because he almost tore a hole in our badger pen to get out!
Yes,I work as a Wildlife Rehabilitator and its a terrific job, even in this cold waether.
I stress that ALL our animals are either released or humanely euthanised, and we have an excellent Vet who we work closely with.

| | | Re: colour variations targus - i thought you must do, it must be very rewarding.
the welsh red kite site it very interesting, although it does describe the white kites as leucistic, does this mean they are a very light yellow?
quote:
Leucistic means that the colouration is mainly pure white and not the usual reds and blacks of a 'normal' kite. Leucism differs from albinism in that pigment is not entirely absent - in most cases it is at least retained in the eyes. This Leucistic individual is mainly white, and has blue eyes - not to be confused for Albino which means the lack of colouring evidenced by pink eyes. |

Tragus | Yes, I am familiar with the site. Thanks. Although to be honest, I don't take too much notice of the Wales kites, due to having so many down here now!
Cheers. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
