| | | Rodent like creature seen today This afternoon when driving in the New Forest, in the distance i could see a animal or rodent like creature crossing the road, about the size of a rat but shorter and more plump.
It dissapeared into the verge as i got to it and i didn't want to stop as there were other cars following me a couple of hundred yards back plus one coming the other way, looking in the rear mirror the creature appeared back on the road behind me, i could see it had short legs, no tail visible and short nose, seemed to be dark grey but with sunglasses on it may have been brown or another colour, if anything i would have said it was a very young Hedgehog but i would have thought it too early for any to be around just yet.
The general shape was not that of a Hedgehog though. It reminded me of a foreign species the name of which i can't remember at the moment.
Nothing else i can think of which matches it unless anyone here can suggest something different.
BTW, it didn't get run over, it faffed around for a few seconds not sure which way to go and then made it back to the verge before the other cars got to it.
The last few days i have had my video camera with me just in case something of interest was waiting to be filmed and sods law i took it out at lunchtime today and left it at home because the inside of the car was so hot in the sun.

| | | Re: Rodent like creature seen today Jim, that was something i never thought of, the shape is right although i would say it would be too small to match, the colour seemed uniform over its entire body unlike the vole, also there is no water anywhere close by, the nearest would be a very small stream, almost ditch probably 1/2 mile away.

| | | Re: Rodent like creature seen today Are you sure it wasn't a rat? We saw one earlier - in with chucks and goats at the pub - and you could hardly notice his tail but he did have a big rump! |

Was it wearing sunglasses or was it dark tinted scepticals(sic ),no sign of flattened bramble was there. As to the dark eyes maybe you are thinking of a raccoons face.
Hope this helps (yeh not likely)
