| | | Bite marks on log. Hi,
I found this log when I was out walking, and I was wondering what might have been biting it. Anyone have any ideas???
Thanks Dave |

| | | Re: Bite marks on log. Looks to me like there are some sizeable claw marks in that log, Dave, so my guess would be a badger looking for insects/grubs under the bark. I've seen similar damage (although without claw marks!) done by deer, which will sometimes strip the bark off (fallen and living) trees.
Cheers,
Marc. |

| | | Re: Bite marks on log. could just be someones dog, we had one that loved to chomp logs just like that when out in the woods on his daily walk, and i have seen others doing it since,
the claw marks fit too,
probably wrong, but just a thought,

| | Re: Bite marks on log. I've got a similar thing but on a smaller scale, on a tree in my fenced in pond area, there are distinct long marks, either teeth or claws, but the tree is RIGHT on the edge of the pond, no room for large mammal even if it jumped fence to get in. I thought it must either be a large rodent type, or a bird, (Woodpecker).I really must get a camera set up in that area, 'cos that's where it all happens, apparantly....Posie.. |
