| | | Recording Software Having just had a bit of a punch-up installing Mapmate into my new Windows 7 Pro PC (my 7 year old XP PC popped its clogs recently), I'm looking into either replacing Mapmate, or using another recording system alongside it.
Does anyone have any experience with using Recorder 6, or any other software package? If so, how easy is it to use, install or update and what is the support like, if any? Is it easy or even possible to transfer data between two systems? Is there an annual licence fee?
This is now the 2nd major problem I've had with Mapmate and I don't really want to trust all my data to one system. |

| | | Re: Recording Software I tried both Recorder and MapMate last year and had problems with both. I couldn't get Recorder to work at all and with MapMate I had problems exporting files over the internet.
The Recorder problem remains insoluble and I was reluctant to go down the help route because of an exorbitant fee structure. I was finding that myself and a colleague were spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to get things sorted, updating various files on the system and so on all to no avail.
MapMate installed and allowed data entry very easily but then I couldn't share the records live over the internet. I think the problem is down to security protocols on our network but haven't yet managed to sort them out. At least with MapMate I was able to enter data and share records with a local recorder by e-mailing him the appropriate records file.
Out of ten Recorder 1 and MapMate 6.

| | | Re: Recording Software Thanks Rob, I've been looking in to Recorder 6, and I agree that the support structure does look very expensive, at least with Mapmate the support is free, if a bit slow, and there's a Mapmate users group on Yahoo! who are usually pretty knowledgable.
I also made some enquiries with one of the suppliers of Recorder 6, who doesn't seem to think it's compatible with Windows 7 at the moment.
Adding data to Mapmate and generating spreadsheets is pretty straightforward, it just seems to be updating or installing that causes me problems.
I'll probably persevere with Mapmate and just hope I don't have to do anything terribly complicated with it in future.
Cheers, Audrey. |
