This is an internet tool that Londoners can use to discover what species they might encounter in their immediate environment, or elsewhere around our wonderful capital city: WIMBY - Whats in my backyard
I found it truly inspirational, a real little treasure of a database. It arrived in some "spam" in my email inbox of all places  but I know of at least one WABBER who works for GiGL. So I reckon it's genuine

Another broadly similar tool, for plants, is this one: The Postcode Plants Database - Natural History Museum
You type in the first three or four characters of your postcode and you get a list of plants that are native to your area.

Thanks so much for that. I had been wondering for a while what GiGL was. I am setting up a Friends Group for an area in Ham, Richmond Upon Thames, and this will be a great resource. |
