| | | Wildlife weirdness caused by the weather I was wondering what strange wildlife activity people had seen/heard about since the "big freeze"?
Around my patch we have had bitterns eating rats and water rails eating wrens and dunnocks (apparently).

| | | Re: Wildlife weirdness caused by the weather i've heard about bitterns and herons eating rats (was yours from Potteric Carr by any chance?). At my local patch the foxes have been out on the frozen lakes chasing the gulls and wildfowl. the big freeze has also pushed a lot of bird species which aren't often seen in town, into town, ie redwings/fieldfares, etc.
the biggest oddity is that its pushed birds into my garden, i thought they didn't exist, apart from an occasional dunnock, but with a lot of feeding i've got a steadily increasing number turning up |

| | | Re: Wildlife weirdness caused by the weather Yeah the rat eating bittern was at Potteric Carr as was the wren eating water rail......
We have been getting some of the more unusual birds (for our garden anyway) such as pied wagtail and even a sky lark this weekend.
