| | | Gunfire I'm a little sad today. After the harsh conditions of the last few days, I'm listening to an array of gunfire - lots of shotguns; more than usual. I live on a country estate so it's my own fault I guess, but it's depressing to think of the pheasants and partridges etc surviving those freezing nights only to be blammed by this week's shooting party.
I think I'm going to move... |

I think I'm going to move... | to be fair those pheasants and partridges arent wild birds - they are bred and supported for the shoot - and most probably wouldnt have made it through the cold winter without the suplemtary feed (which also benefits other birds who forage the left over)

| | | Re: Gunfire Yeah I know eeyore, but even so, I'm still not really comfortable with it. Especially when the beaters come along my fence and disturb everything. |

| | | Re: Gunfire Shooters... well game keepers do a lot to maintain the environment for the birds they put down. I used to love beating with my dog and learnt more about the countryside this way when i were a lad. Your lucky to live on a country estate and not an housing estate like I do

| | | Re: Gunfire Indeed Lance, I can see that. It is great but like anywhere, it does have its downsides from time to time. Anyway, I'm not lucky as such - I just rent it, same as anyone else can.
I'm just having an internal dialogue with myself that goes something like this... Yay pheasants! Oh they've shot them.
Yay partridges! Oh they've shot them.
Yay stoats! Oh the gamekeeper's after them.
Yay foxes! See above.
Yay roe deer! Oh there's someone's bl**dy gun dogs chasing them across the field (as happened yesterday morning).
Yay interesting wildlife! Oh, the shooters/beaters/dogs have scared everything off - again.
And last but by no means least: Yay Internet! Oh the beaters' shoot is standing in the road right outside my house, shooting right across my phone line, one of them hollering "Yeehaa!" every few seconds (as happened this time last year)
There. Rant over. May not be any logic in it, but hey.
Could be worse I guess. At the last place I lived, I woke up on Boxing Day to a foxhunt gathering outside not 20ft from my bedroom window! Luckily for the fox, they were a hopeless rabble. |

| | | Re: Gunfire I think in the case of Geese and extreme weather conditions, they do not shoot until the weather improves, but it only means the Geese have a few more weeks left to live.

| | | Re: Gunfire It's funny but I too have an internal dialouge every time I go to town goes a bit like this,
Yay litter every where
Yay some drunk is urinating in a doorway
Yay same drunk is being sick in gutter
Yay Ignorant ##### push you around while trying to shop
Yay Hoodies on every corner
Yay the air is chocked with exhaust fumes
Yay some scum pickpocketing me
Yay druggies every where
So guess what I don't like it so I don't live there I reckon you should do your self a favor move back to town |

| | | Re: Gunfire If I come back "reincarnated" with the choice of either a Pheasant or a mass produced Chicken that lives less than 6 weeks grows that fast it is pain full lives in filth, no room to move and never takes a breath of fresh air, or never see's natural light. Let me come back as a pheasant, pampered and fed released in the wild live free for several months at least, and how knows I might just make it past the guns for a few seasons .
Regards
Colin

Very true but I have not felt the need to start a thread moaning about people going about their lawful activities.
