| | | Are you ready for Tree O'clock Next week is National Tree Week, and as pat of the celebrations, on Saturday 5th of December, it's Tree O'clock, an attempt to break the world record of most trees planted in an hour in the UK. It is a great opportunity to do something for the environment and get out and about. The BBC and the Woodland Trust, amongst others, are sponsoring it, and there is free tree giveaways at some garden centres and local authorities, with native trees (one per person) including Field Maple, Silver Birch, Rowan and Hazel. Check it out at BBC - Breathing Places - Tree O'Clock

| | | Re: Are you ready for Tree O'clock Thanks for link Africa, I'm definitely up for it. I only heard about it last friday (Autumn watch), hope it's not too late to get daughters school involved. As you say it is a great opportunity to help the environment and good to get out and about. There's loads of interesting info/links on the website.
I'm really looking forward to it!

| | | Re: Are you ready for Tree O'clock A great initiative, I would just suggest to people that they're careful where they plant their trees, trees can be damaging to a range of habitats valuable for wildlife, unimproved grassland, heathlands for example, also exposed sandy soil or south facing banks can be more valuable to invertebrates and reptiles where they are not overshaded by trees. Just some food for thought... |

Valuable sites have been damaged in the past by ill thought out tree planting schemes. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
