| | | Lake district holidays Can anyone recommend a good place/area to stay in the Lake district. We have two dogs and are interested in taking lots of walks and wildlife/landscape shots. A local pub or two is a priority! Thanks - Wizzo |

| | | Re: Lake district holidays Problem at the moment wizzo, is many places are underwater. Think I'd be tempted to wait for the waters to recede and see what the state of play is then. Having said that, I've already got a cottage booked for next April with these guys, just hoping it's OK.
We've stayed at one of their cottages in Elterwater a couple of times in the past. Lovely little village with great scenery on the doorstep and the Britannia Inn was the cover pub for the Good Beer Guide in 2006, not been recently though to be fair. Very, very busy little pub though... |

| | | Re: Lake district holidays We have stayed at loads of places in the Lakes but Blind Tarn near Grasmere is one of my favourites, detatched farmhouse at the foot of the mountains. Down side - about a 20/30 minute walk through gorgeous countryside to the village of Grasmere. No problem in the summer evenings of course. The advert used to say 1 dog, but we asked and we were allowed to take both of ours. It's brill!

| | | Re: Lake district holidays We stayed in a cottage in Seascale. If you can ignore the power station on the horizon there is a very large sandy beach which our dogs loved, a secure garden and a couple of pubs and you are within easy reach by car of a lot of the lakes, particularly Wast Water (my favourite!). Do a google search for 'holiday cottage Seascale' and you'll find it

| | | Re: Lake district holidays Claire, which cottage did you stay in? There were quite a few on the page I looked at. Shirl, I found the Blind Tarn. Wow, I could cope with staying there for a couple of weeks! What a lovely place. Our dogs would absolutley love it. Are there any other people living near by? Thanks again guys! |

| | | Re: Lake district holidays This is the page for it. The photos are old ones and the decor has been updated a bit but you'll get the gist. (parking for 3 cars is a bit ambitious, but there is parking) http://www.cottages4you.co.uk/sites/...~288~N~N~N~N~N

There is(or was the last time we went and it looks like it's still in the photos) a single story sort of barn conversion just before you get to the farmhouse, also a holiday let (cheaper than the farmhouse I think) but other than that you are on your own. Access to the farmhouse is via a farm and through a field track, it is absolutely heavenly. There is a little meadow area at the back of the farmhouse with a stream at the bottom, perfect for cleaning muddy dogs up. If you check it's location on an OS map you will be even more tempted! We last went in April a couple of years ago, snow on the mountains it was just to die for, Sergeant Man offered some spectacular views of the Langdales. Hope you find your dream cottage up there.

| | | Re: Lake district holidays Well it's funny you mention a tent. We are thinking about buying a caravan. To be honest though, the thought of towing the thing all that way and getting stuck down some narrow lane, with nowhere to back the thing up, feels me with dread. I'll bet there's some super touring parks up that way though? Wizzo |

| | | Re: Lake district holidays We camped in a tent for many many years, I think the thing that decided us to get a motorhome was a week at Seathwaite - fantastic basic site at the foot of the mountains, but the wettest place in England! Even the army cadets packed up camp at 4am one morning. After a few years in the motorhome we bit the bullet and bought a caravan, if you just plan your route and check directions with the camp site - no problem at all. once you are pitched, you are done. There are lots of quiet small sites, plus camping & caravan club / caravan club sites - with the added bonus of heated loos etc. Some club sites even have drying rooms, it all helps with this british weather and you can go in the depths of winter. We go away in the caravan late December every year, lovely!
