I spoke too soon. Guess cos it's the first Saturday night after 5/11 they've being going on with a vengeance all over the city since it was dark this evening.

Considering it's the eve of Remembrance Sunday, hope all the elderly folk are suffering from shell shock. Agree with Loripo, sounds like the Blitz and I can't imagine how terrifying it would have been to live through that.

Surely you mean that you hope that they are not suffering from shell shock

What was that military term - "shock and awe" - if that's worse than the noise over London right now it must be absolutely terrifying.

Not heard a single Firework go off yet. I think most people are opting for organised displays these days. I never had Fireworks at home, always took the Children to organised displays. As a 6 year old I was burnt on the arm by a Rocket that had tipped over in the milk bottle just as it had been ignited.

I do love a good Firework display though, some have had me in tears, especially the Firework displays that are ending the Festivals.

Stewart is my rabbit. Someone dumped him on the reserve and he was seriously ill, but now rules the house and chases the cats around. He's very lopsided - half of his face seems to be paralized because of the parasite - but very very cute. And he has attitude. If he could, I think he would go and bite the prats with the fireworks.

Wish the current financial situation had stopped people around here buying fireworks. Just think what they could do with the money.............pay the mortgage.........eat.......

We now have a continuous barrage of explosions all around, and it echoes up and down the river and it's likely to go on for an hour. As you say all that money going up in smoke...

I do love a good display myself but I have two dogs who aren't so keen. One of them was born on 5th November and has never been bothered by them, I guess he woke to the sound of them

The other completely freaks out. Last night we left them with my in-law, mainly because we were off to an Al Murray gig (funny bloke!) but also because he lives in the sticks (the in-law) and we thought it would be quieter and easier for the dog, apparently not, he was going crazy all night. So much so he has literally lost his bark today just as we lose our voice when we shout too much!

What a waste. Last summer saw the local debris transformed into a beautiful landscaped garden. Bonfire night saw it reduced to a blackened waste littered with mattress coils and half burned sofa's.
Some people just don't want to live in pleasant surroundings.

We're lucky and only hear fireworks here rarely. There were a only a couple on November 5th and that has been it so far this year until now. Tonight they are going off but I don't imagine they will be too late. There was a great organized display in the village but I didn't go, I stayed in the warm and watched it through the window.

Agrumpycow: Al Murray is very funny live, isn't he, I've seen him a couple of times now.
