| | | Bear behaviour studies After watching the fantastic Bear Walker of the Northwood episode of the Natural World series (catch it on iPlayer here) I thought I'd look Prof Lynn Rogers up, and was very glad to see lots of his papers published and available on his website: Publications
I heard an interview with him on Radio 4, watched the documentary and am very impressed with this chap. He's expanded what people know about these fantastic animals by a significant margin. Lovely chap too, as well as his wife. Very brave, and more power to 'em for what they're doing. They deserve a lot more recognition, the world needs people like this in my opinion. |

sounds like its not up to speed with the connection. Try leaving it to buffer a good size portion of the program by either leaving it on pause while you make yourself a brew?
Its a bit like youtube, sometimes the video plays faster than the connection you may have, so let it build before hitting the play button
hope this helps, it really is worth watching

| | | Re: Bear behaviour studies I don't watch a lot of television but made an effort to watch this programme. It was fantastic.
I was particularly impressed with Rogers pragmatic approach to activities affecting the bears (for six weeks after 1st September without wishing to open another can of worms here) and how he dealt with harrowing situations.
A lesson to us all.
Take hammock monkeys advice and watch it if you can. |

| | | Re: Bear behaviour studies Watched it today. What a roller coaster of emotions I felt. Joy at the trust between man and bear, such sorrow seeing the lifeless body and hearing of the death of another of the trio.
I could feel the guy’s sadness, even though he tried to remain pragmatic about the hunting.
Tis a sad world sometimes.

| | | Re: Bear behaviour studies Hunting is a fact of life over there - 'we' hunted ours to destinction etc so I can accept it through gritted teeth, but the more important aspect is that Prof Rogers has expanded the knowledge of bear behaviour by a considerable margin and put all his work out there for us all to read.
The black bear behaviour that he and his wife have captured, the fluttering noises etc, was fascinating.
Wonderful creatures, intelligent, emotionally complex gentle giants. I think I'm going to donate something to Prof Rogers cause, I'm so impressed with his work - and the man himself to be honest. |

| | | Re: Bear behaviour studies i watched this last night.
what beautiful creatures they are, ive always had a soft spot for black bears.
i am full of admiration for this man, his wife and his bear study partner, i take my hat off to them.
it was awful when 2 yearlings got killed, ironically one (Dale) was a good friend to us humans, helping people with fear of bears. so sad (both were study bears)
we need more like Mr Rogers and less of the brave people who sit in trees and point a gun at these gentle giants and baby bears ( those 2 were only a year old)

| | | Re: Bear behaviour studies I too thought that this was a fantastic programme and visited the website afterwards to do some more research.
There is another black bear researcher called Michael Allen based in Whistler, B.C. who we were lucky enough to go bear viewing with earlier this year. Not so interactive as Lynn Rogers but we were thrilled to get as close as we did. He does a lot of work with the local community in order to protect the bears. If you are ever over that way I would thoroughly recommend a trip out with him. Money from the trips helps his research.
