They may not be any studies that show that they feel pain in a way that we would recognise but that doesn't mean they don't feel something. |

ps - Killing for food is a natural way of life in many species/ecosystems including our own seeing as we've been doing it for food for Millennia. |

| | | Re: Do you agree with the killing of animals/birds ? Hi Squeek,
You come over to me as a caring, but sensitive person, who loves all living things, but has little comprehension of how wildlife works.
How would you react when you see a tiger hunt, kill and begin to eat it's prey ? If you were able, would you be there with a stick, beating it off saying "Bad moggie"
Humans are animal, just like the tiger, and the reason so many of us go into KFC, Mc Donalds, etc., is because the food really does taste nice.
Regarding plants, to me Sycamore, White Poplar and much, much more are weeds, and as someone previously said 'a weed is just a plant growing in the wrong place'.
I remove hundreds of Pine & Birch every year, just so birds like nightjars can survive or even butterfly's like Silver Studded Blue can live.
Naturally, I despise the so-called big game hunters and even in this country with the shooting of pheasants (which taste b****y awful) I have my reservations as a lot of it is for appearances only. True, a lot of woods would be grubbed up otherwise, and I know by killing so-called 'vermin' the woods become good for song birds, but I like to see weasels, stoats and foxes (not the tree rat though !)
So I will not be casting my vote because the poll is really a bit pointless.
Sorry Squeek,
Neil. |

Of course everyone has to eat something. Depends on how far up the food chain you want to go. Food from animals requires more resources to produce, especially as there are more and more people. And can be very unkind. Like I said, it's my choice. You make yours |

I think you must be a very clever Robot, because if you were a human, with your views you would not even be drinking water !
Just think of all the millions of tiny micro creatures that have to be killed just to bring us good drinking water.
I can't stand it, their pitiful cries for help haunt me every time I have a pint of beer.

| | | Re: Do you agree with the killing of animals/birds ? I think its all to simplistic, take the question about pests for example, I am assuming the OP was referring to animal pests with regard to humans, i.e. pigeons, badgers, foxes and deer to name some but what about animal predation against other species. For instance someone mentioned Nightingales and I was reading that there is a possible link in area's where deer and nightingales coexist that deer predation on the fauna is destroying the nightingale habitat, foxes if left uncontrolled could affect owl populations as the fox could increase their predation on voles/field mice etc, while these are "what if" scenarios there are issues that we know for sure that affect native UK wildlife, signal crayfish, harlequin ladybird, the mink and the New Zealand Flat Worm are some that come to mind that aren't pests to humans per se but do enormous damage never the less.
Squeek, please dont stop asking or posting because not everyone agrees with you, this is the third thread of your's that I have followed and have enjoyed the debate/discussions that they have produced. I may not have agreed with everything that has been said but thats what forums are all about.

If this is the case, deer control (culling) to protect/promote nightingale habitat would be a good thing. Its called conservation. |
