The Killing Guilt

I'm having a bad day, I've killed two spiders and even after telling the rest of my family to avoid standing on the snail, who ultimately sent it to an early grave? Me, unfortunately, that's happened twice today, I feel really bad, anybody else done something similar?

Once whilst wandering home from a rather late finisihing wedding do on a wet night I very conscientiously took great pains to tiptoe through a large number of snails on the pavement, only to slip on some dog poo and land on my back witan audible crunch.

Smelly shoes, slimy jacke!!

Um... only every time it rains! I take extra care walking along the pavement so as to avoid standing on slugs or snails... but then hear a crunch anyway! You can't see them all.

Earlier on this year I was taking our two little ones to school, came across a worm on the pavement. “Come on Mr worm” said I, “you will get trod on”.
I duly picked up the worm and tossed it onto the grass…Hungry black bird picked it up just as it landed!
“Should just have left it alone dad” was the retort I received from two not-so impressed children!

I put one of the caterpillars I found in a cauliflower out onto my kitchen windowsill on a leaf, intending to take it outside when I went out. When I went to get it - no leaf, no caterpillar and I'm six floors up.Still dont know if the pigeons got it or if it sailed off into the blue

Its usually when I hit something in the car I feel guilty (1 Grey Squirrel one House Sparrow ) which is good considering the amount I have dodged and almost crashed . But sometimes there is not alot you can do.

Found a goldfinch in the grille at the front of the car, years ago now, but it did seem a bit of an impersonal swipe at a small thing.

Trod on a Roman snail once, I didn't even know they were found there. Weeks later, walking through a supermarket, I stood on the edge of some plastic strapping. The sound was so similar, I apologised.

Funny old thing (kind of), considering my reutation on this site of being something like Josef Mengele's slightly nastier brother, I hate stepping on snails !!
