Hornets nest in ivy

I'm not overly sure if this is the correct forum for this thread but if not, I'm sure a helpful mod will advise me.

I have a large Ivy growing outside my house which I will be pruning back this year (a job I do every couple of years) However, I believe there is a hornets nest in the bush, the hornets fly in just where the dark "hole" is on the 2nd picture.

When would be the safest time for both the hornets and more importantly, me, to do the pruning?

The colony should be finished by late autumn, so after November should be fine. During September/October many insects will visit the flowers, one of the last native nectar sources.
