| | | A Dragon day at Thursley I wasn't able to make it to the recent meet , but I spent today exploring Thursley.
The day started overcast, so there weren't many dragonflies around before about midday, but the boardwalks were alive with Common Lizards of all sizes.
After lunch, the sun came out, and I began to see dragons.
This Black Darter was very obliging sitting on a handrail.
.. and this pair were also happy for me to get nice and close.
This female Common Hawker was ovipositing just beside the boardwalk.
The Small Red Damselflies were typically difficult to see, but this one posed for me with some lovely backlight.
Altogether, I saw:
Emerald Damselfly
Azure Damselfly
Common-Blue Damselfly
Blue-tailed Damselfly
Small Red Damselfly
Common Hawker
Southern Hawker
Brown Hawker
Emperor Dragonfly
Golden-ringed Dragonfly
Keeled Skimmer
Common Darter
Black Darter
A pretty good day.

| | | Re: A Dragon day at Thursley Sounds like a good day to me. I visited Thursley back in June + it's a great place for fauna + flora alike. One of my favourite places in SE England. |

| | | Re: A Dragon day at Thursley Some great images there Jerry, and thats an impressive list of species for mid-August.
Sadly I didn't make it to the Thursley meet either, so I'm looking forward to getting down there next year now! |

| | | Re: A Dragon day at Thursley Thanks for all your comments. Thursley's a great place - I think a new year's resolution for me next year must be not to double book myself on the weekend of the WAB meet | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
