| | | Re: what is that? Since it is in Saudi Arabia it rules out Coyote. The only wolf in that region is The Persian or Steppe wolf (Canis Lupus Campestris). It is a small wolf inhabiting the deserts and steppes of Central Asia. It has a short coarse coat that is dull grey with a tint of ochre. There are only a small numbers left though.
I think it is more likely to be a dog or hybrid. You may find there may be similar ones like it in the area. In remote regions they can often revert back to looking like wolves in a very short space of time – especially if they are not bred for their looks alone or for pedigree, but for working or guarding. Think of Dingo’s in Australia. Their ancestors may well have looked more dog-like, but after generations in the wild, they look very wolf/jackal-like now. |

I expect in Saudii there must be somone with a captive pack of wolves and with such a proud hunting history, maybe someone was trying to breed the ultimate hunting or maybe a super fierce guard dog, I wonder if like with gang leaders and drug dealers in America there is an associated kudos or display of wealth and somehow being more of a MAN with owning a tiger or a wolf in Saudii?
(By the way there are actually more captive tigers in the USA than there are in the wild) |

(By the way there are actually more captive tigers in the USA than there are in the wild) | Yep, could well be. There are only a few hundred (C.campestris and C.pallipes) left in the region and they have no legal protection whatsoever.
You would not need to have a captive wolf pack for breeding 'supadogs' though. You just need to stake out a female dog in heat for the night in a suitable area. This often being near rubbish dumps in Saudi (on one website I went on recently it stated: 'Main prey: Garbage, carrion, livestock'!). | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
