It's the lawn of somebody we do gardening for. (Maybe they're aliens in disguise - hadn't thought of that! ) |

| | | Re: Strange Clear Jelly ID You will find I am sure a picture of exactly what you have seen from a previous forum query. See the BBC - Scotland Outdoors Galleries - 'Jelly' mystery link at: Strange jelly - BBC Scotland
I encounter this jelly on a regular basis and have always assumed that it is Heron regurgitate. It is usually near water or boggy ground but I have also found it in the middle of the road!! |

| | | Re: Strange Clear Jelly ID Hi, I have been doing some reasearch on this subject and have a couple questions for you about it.
Is it more typically found in spring months? Is it found more typically in the early morning hours? Does it disappear as the morning progresses or sun comes out or begins to shine?
Any answers would be much appreciated. Thanks |

| | | Re: Strange Clear Jelly ID There have been many previous threads on this subject and evidently not all these strange jelly like masses/blobs are the same thing.
There seems to be a tendency to call ANY clear or greenish or whitish jelly-like substance Nostoc commune (a cyonobacteria) but there are other species of Nostoc and there are many other clear jelly blobs suggested as being Red Deer Stag semen, a substance excreted by frogs or toads, algae, and many more suggestions.
Even a decent photograph would probably be insufficient to narrow down the source.
Neil.
PS. The Welsh have even given any substance like this the name Powdre See (sorry if that is the wrong spelling) but nobody knows WHICH substance the inventor was actually referring too.

| | | Re: Strange Clear Jelly ID I'm referring to the substance that people claim is star jelly, being clear and likely about a foot or so in diameter by like 3 inches deep.
Usually referenced to wetter ground. I'm looking for patterns of when it apears typically. Thanks |

Thanks | I know exactly what you mean, but you sounded like some self-appointed UFO type investigator who thinks this completely natural phenomenon which is fully understood, has mysterious out of this world connections.
If I'm wrong, what is it then you are trying to research, which hasn't been done already ?
