| | | Re: Cat problem I have a secret weapon against marauding moggies, her name is Jess and she's a three-way cross between Lurcher x Staffordshire bull Terrier x Border Collie.
We were plagued by cats after the birds in our garden until we got her from the local RSPCA re-homing centre two years ago, so we gave an unwanted puppy a good home and in return got a much loved loyal family freind, and the ultimate cat deterant |

| | | Re: Cat problem Its been good reading this topic as I have two cats. I have about 12 hanging feeders and a bird table with mostly Sparrows and Goldfinch visiting. The thing is my cats never bother the birds. One of my cats, Cola is too fat to catch any thing but Pepsi used to catch birds before I put the feeder up but now she just sits and looks at them, perhaps she is spoilt for choice so doesn't bother. Also my cats wont allow any other cats into the garden. So perhaps the best cat deterent would be another cat.

| | | Re: Cat problem I have built my walls up with clematis on top, hard work for puss to climb over, but climb do climb sometimes, but they do come over my garage roof, nothing will stop them , but did see this cat scarer which looks quite good. Spray away, motion activated water repeller
but a bit expensive.
I thought of hanging small bells on the hedges, or on a wire where the cat passes through, it would give the birds a warning. |

I was going to get one of these but I resent spending a load of money on something due to somebody elses pet. Think you have to have it attached to your hose. I've planted lots of spikey plants. What's really making me angry now is the cat is pooping everywhere and with a little one who likes to help in the garden it's not good. You can get toxic plaswotsits and god knows what else from cat do-do. |

| | | Re: Cat problem Yes I can understand you being angry Honeybee, and it is a lot of money as you say to try and stop someones elses cat, why should you have to pay.
I don t think you will ever stop them, but you can make the hedges thick, and maybe put wire netting as well. I have clematis growing on top of the wall, I made it higher with wood running on top of the wall, its like a huge thatch now, and all tangled, and if puss does come over, it can t get back easy, so I have time to give it good soaking with hose pipe.
But he knows I m not around in the early hours, and thats when he will come over.
If the puss is useing your garden for a toilet, you need to get rid of all the smell of it as they will come back all the time, and you need to put a smell there that they don t like, or after cleaning it all, soak with water everyday untill they go somewhere else, they don t like getting their feet wet, just some idea s .
