| | | LOL?I almost wet myself I have been sat here working away and i heard screaming swifts. Dropping everything i ran outside, thinking they should have left a long long time ago, kept scanning and looking. They pass through each spring but never nest in the village
NO sign so i return in, looking at the flowering ivy, how do those flowers work? i think to myself, but that is another thread.
Back to work and their they are again, back outside... back in, no luck! 3rd time i hear them, I realise its on the radio LOL. Radio 4 prog about villages in bloom and sabotage!! GRRRR but LOL at myself, thankfully nobody else here.
Any one else ever been duped by media sounds? |

| | | Re: LOL?I almost wet myself Can't say that I have. I have been fooled by other birdwatchers in the field though who were using mp3 type gadgets to play bird calls in an attempt to lure out a rarity Not happy! |

| | | Re: LOL?I almost wet myself Lol..........I am always mistaking the radio for other things. I have a radio on nearly everywhere I go and I am forever trying to answer my phone or thinking my car is making strange noises etc etc. Love that about swifts though........... |

Always doing that myself
The one that used to get me though was a bird in the garden that mimicked the phone, always used to go running in to answer it |

| | | Re: LOL?I almost wet myself We've got one of those "relaxation" style CD's, of rainforest sounds. One track has a very realistic thunderstorm, which makes our cats jump nearly every time! |

We were trying to ID an owl the other day by going through the soundbites at the RSPB site. I got waylaid when I clicked on the robin to hear the song, and Miss Grace our house bunny was fine! I then clicked on the first owl and for some absurd reason it was really loud and Miss Grace started doing panicked circuits around the room, thumoing as she did so I felt so guilty.

| | | Re: LOL?I almost wet myself I arrived late at bird-ringing earlier in the year and had a wander up to the nets to see if anything had been caught. I could hear a skylark in the grass so I tippy-toed around very carefully .... only to find it was a tape recorder. Durrrrrrr! |

| | | Re: LOL?I almost wet myself N, can't say that has happened to me - though when yung I was out in my local woods and I heard this strange squeaky birdsong, so I mimicked it to try to get it to come closer which it duly did, and then my friend cycled into the claring, yes I was communicating with his squeaky brake.... brilliant, 15 years and I've still not lived that down and I do tend to annoy everyone around me by watching the telly with them and going 'that birdsong's wrong for the season / habitat'..... etc |
