| | | My fav story A few years ago I heard on the news or paper or somewhere that a duck had a band put round its beak by some idiot.
It would have starved to death yet it had the sense to come out the pond walk through the villiage and knock on a door with its beak.
Well by luck or knowledge no one knows which the villiage vet lived there and he answered the door saw what was wrong and took it off the ducks beak,,the duck then went back to the pond.
I thought that was a nice story! |

| | | Re: My fav story These strange animal interactions with people do occur, in our case, after more than 12 months without a cat and not wanting to take on a kitten the ugliest stray cat I have ever seen billeted itself on us sleeping on a bench under the porch. The Lioness said see it off but it walked past me and put its front paws on her as high as it could reach and made the most plaintive noise.
He has been shedding fur here ever since

| | Re: My fav story I came across this thread and thought it would be a good idea to bring it back into the here and now, 'cos there must be lots more lovely animal stories out there waiting to be told. The best I can come up with at the moment is ......I had an orphan guernsey calf to rear, and it didn't seem to do well on milk replacer, mainly because it wouldnt drink enough of it. I decided to put it out to graze during the day, and in at night, with a young Saanen Goat that I had then, just for company. The goat had not had any kids, so had not ever had any milk.Within 24 hours of having the newborn calf in with her, she came into full milk, and the calf suckled her straight away. She had so much milk that she then took on another little calf as well, and reared them both to weaning. Of course I had fed the goat well on concentrates and best hay as well as the grass, while she was producing the milk, and the calves were introduced to creep feed in the normal way.It is not uncommon for a maiden goat to come into milk, (Maiden milker) but it was the timing that impressed me. Wonderful ! And it made life easier for me. .Posie.. |

| | | Re: My fav story Love the story re the duck.
Closest I can come up with is our old family heinz 57 mutt. When we were munching on our tea & cornflakes in a morning, she used to go to the kitchen put her paw on her dish (plastic) tip it up, bring it through then plonk it at your feet looking expectantly up at you. I swear no-one taught her that, but we were certainly well trained by her as we always did put in a spot of tea then some flakes in for her.

| | Re: My fav story Not really a story, but my cousin has got a pidgeon her hubbie brought home from work, had been thrown out of the nest, was only a squeaker, no feathers, or hardly any. She called him Louis. She reared him and she's still got him 15 1/2 years later. He lives indoors some of the time, but is free to go outdoors when he wants, she keeps a window open for him. He does go out to fly around, but always comes back in. He was a town pidgeon, not a woody. I wonder what their normal life expectancy in the wild is? does anyone know?.. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
