Best way to photograph insects

I see some fantastic examples of Butterfly, Moth and insect photography on here, ....... what's the best way to photograph them, not only for picture quality, but also for identification.

Hi Dadzinsky.

I suppose the best way to photograph Butterflies etc for ID purposes is to try and get an open wing and a closed wing shot. Also the habitat that they are in can also be a good clue as to the identity.

As for picture quality then that depends on the camera you are using and what experience you might have.

I see you are in Lincolnshire, I'm in North Lincolnshire so if you are anywhere near me I would be happy to meet up with you some place that's convenient for us both.

If you've got a digital camera, an empty memory card and full battery.. just keep going for it! Top and side shot will be of most help when trying to ID. Macro of course is always handy, tho you can't always guarantee that yr sujbect will happily sit and pose for you lol!
