| | Do you recognise this sound? Hi guys I was wondering if anybody could tell us for certain what this sound is coming from! We've had suggestions like frogs and birds from friends but none of them have ever heard anything like it before. YouTube - Do you recognise this sound?
This was recorded at sunset in a field in the middle of nowhere in North Lancashire (near Cockerham). It must be some form of wildlife because it was coming from at least 30 different places around us and there was no civilization for miles around.
Skip to halfway through the video for the sound at its loudest. It was much louder in real life.
Thankyou It's been bugging us since we left a month ago and to be honest at the time we thought we were hallucinating from too much fresh air or something, which is why we had to record it :P |

The sounds are the calls made by Lapwings (which are sometimes also known as Green Plovers, or Peewits - the latter name because of the sound you can hear in your recording).

We are eternally grateful for your help and bow to your amazing knowledge of wildlife calling. I'm jealous of you guys and they are doing very well indeed.
It was extremely eerie but magical to be surrounded by so many |

| | | Re: Do you recognise this sound? No doubt about it being a lapwing. They have tons over at whipsnade zoo and on the farm my dad works. I always thought they sounded like a radio being tuned |
