| | | Spring/Summer firsts..... Ok i dont get on here much of late as im down to the last couple of weeks of my degree ...however, i have seen quite a few year firsts this last week or two that i thought i would share.
I was at Oare Marshes at the weekend and saw my first swallows and housemartins which all dropped into the reserve in huge numbers.
Also heard my first cetti's warbler of the year, saw my first wheater.
Then this week ( i think it was..or maybe last week) i heard my first cuckoo while at home.
Today at Yalding Fen reserve i heard my first nightingale, saw my first whitethroat and saw my first holly blue...along with numerous orange tips, comma, peacock, red admiral and speckled woods...plus the whites (still no tortoishell) =(...
Still...its all happening....that boundary between spring and summer is ebbing ever closer....and to prove it i got sunburnt to buggery today at yalding fen!...first time of many this year i suspect! ...
right ....back to that dissertation 'conclusion'...that habitat management plan...and that EIA review

Dan - hope the sunburn's not too painful |

| | | Re: Spring/Summer firsts..... I've seen a few Peacocks, a Holly Blue, Wood Whites, Orange Tips and what I'm sure was a Painted Lady.
Yesterday, a few Green Tiger Beetles (CICINDELLA CAMPESTRIS) and quite a few Pill Millipedes on a woodland footpath. We had to be careful not to stand on them!
In the bird world, Swallows and Chiffchaffs but I'm watching out for the Redstarts. I'm sure I've heard a couple....but haven't spotted one yet.

They've arrived here in this part of Surrey - I saw 3 at Frensham Little Pond a couple of days ago. Hope you get to see some soon too |
