| | | My life as an animal Great series on BBC3. BBC iPlayer - My Life as an Animal: Pigs
I was very impressed at the way the actor really threw himself into trying to experience life as a pig. No doubt his actor training helped him emormously in this.
I was rather dissapointed to witness the feeble attempts of the girl reporter, who clearly wasn't prepared to go very much outside her own comfort zone at all. What a pity.
But, quite a remarkable insight of ourselves, animals and the way we perceive them.
Next ones about horses. |

Unfortunately for them, the only information they have on how the world works is their own personal experience of it - no stories handed down, no media to consult. Thus I would imagine that if they had a view at all it would be that this is how things are. |

I can not stand this sort of TV.
No offence to those who love it of course.

| | | Re: My life as an animal Pity, because you might have realised this isn't your average "reality"
program, it was about teaching the audience, via animal beahaviour experts and the two people living with the pigs, how and why pigs behave with each other.
The whole idea was for the humans to behave, as best they could, like pigs, and see if the pigs would accept them. They went into the group and lived, ate their food, and slept with them, as if they were another pig. Via the experts, they learnt how pigs greet each other, how they show affection, how they show dominance/subservience etc. and tried to behave in the same manner.
The amazing thing was that when they behaved like pigs they were accepted and treated like a member of the group. At one point the guy was showing affection to another pig by chewing its ear, like pigs do, and both the pig and the guy seemed rather comforted by this bonding process, as pigs themselves are. I found this really rather touching.
I hate reality shows too, and do not watch them, but I urge you to watch this series, as it seems to offer an extraordinarily unique insight into the behaviour of animals.
I'm hoping the next horses one is going to follow in the same vein.

Hmm, in hindsight I did rather stress how well I thought the guy did and how poor I thought the girls attempt was. This is kind of how reality series' pan out. Sorry about that.
But anyway for me it was all about the pigs - they guy really learnt, and taught me, a lot. The girl, I feel, missed out on a great opportunity to really understand pigs. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
