What is this?
We saw this in a tree while we were out today and did not know what it is. A friend has suggested a bee nest, it was huge. Enlightenment would be much appreciated!

I reckon it's a bacterial or fungal canker.

It is an explosion of growth caused by a fungi some produce hundreds of shoots in spring and are known as Witches Broomsticks sometimes
