Please help - cat after my water voles

What a battle our ratties are having. I don't know what the protective status really gives the water voles, but if this is a pet cat then the owners must be responsible for it and therefore must be breaking the law letting thier pet disturb and possibly kill water voles. If it's a ferrel cat then catching it must be an option.

This particular cat was very well looked after, you could tell. But that's right, BWD, the cat owner is breaking the law. I hadn't thought of it like that. I know someone whose cat's already caught a water vole this year, and she's shut it in at least till the nesting season's over.
