| | | favorite british species ok folks, we have got mammal, plant, bird, invertebrate etc of the day threads, so with this in mind, i thought it would be interesting to see if people could narow down their favorite british species and for the sake of this thread, i think we should no exactly why.
il start the ball rolling, although its an almost impossible task, ive got to go for the humble grass snake. the reason being, despite the countless individuals i have found, i always get a sense of great excitement and awe, that even in this age of development and industialisation, we still have wild snakes.
i am also impressed with the grassie because of its afinity with water and never fail to be thrilled when observing one swimming with ease and hunting in water.
Ive been lucky to see many british reptiles and many other groups also but the single best observation ive ever had was a mating ball of grass snakes with the 4 males wrestling to get the prized female close by. |

| | | Re: favorite british species So difficult and I'll probably change my mind in five minutes, but after enjoying their antics lately upon their return to local hills, the Curlew. Their song and joy-flights are an utter springtime thrill to me after a long winter and I don't think another bird so epitomises my beloved Pennines.
Regards, Chris

| | | Re: favorite british species My favourite is stinking hellebore, a rare species found occasionally around my winter walking places in North East Wales. It's always a joy to be walking the hills on a cold January day and finding this plant in full flower. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
