| | | NBN Gateway Sorry if this is posting to the converted but I have just discovered this website (nbn dot org dot uk) a mine of fascinating information even if it is a little out of date and there are some glaring omissions (red squirrel on the Isle of Wight for example). I imagine it is only as good as the records that are submitted.
If you've got a spare half hour I recommend having a browse and seeing what is your area. |

| | | Re: NBN Gateway Yep, very good site, I use it frequently. They wouldn't have the time or resources to check and validate each record submitted. I found Discus ruderatus, a snail that some say is extinct in the UK for the last 8,000yrs, listed mainly with a Southern distribution so I can only really assume it's historical too. As good as year-on-year records would be good, I don't think the database could be updated that much; again time and resources.
If you know about your local biological records centre, send them your records and they should send them over to NBN for inclusion Thanks for highlighting it, Robin

Reason: Forgot to italicise D. ruderatus!

| | | Re: NBN Gateway It's a site I find really useful if I'm going to be going on holiday, or even for a day out. Before I go I have a look to see what sort of things have been seen so I know what to keep a look out for. Also useful to check when you get back to see if you've seen something that hasn't been recorded for that area. |

Since I know there are more places that have Blue Tits, I must have misunderstood something

It must be just the records that have been submitted, perhaps because they are very common not many people bother to record them? |

| | | Re: NBN Gateway Always check the datasets you have access to when you look at a map on the NBN. It is possible on the Blue Tit map that the BTO dataset was not showing.
