| | | Strange sound from the garden . I have heard over the past few months a sound I can only describe as similar to a dog whistle / Alarm , very high pitched and regular .
I usually hear it in the early hours ( 2 - 4 am )
My wife has never heard it until this morning ( 7 am ) , I am sure it is an insect or bird , but wife says it is nothing she has ever heard before . We live near the forest ( conifer ) and often hear Foxes and have even seen deer in the early hours wandering down the road .
So there is wildlife all around .
I typed in the description on google and it came up with a Goldcrest but I listened to that on line , and is nothing like that , same pitch , but completely different tune .
Any ideas anyone ?

Thanks for the welcome PF .
It sounds more like that than the Goldcrest , BUT it does not have the cheeping bit , just the high pitched whistle .
Could it be an insect ?
I am confused !!!!! |

| | | Re: Strange sound from the garden . Hi Jasper, can you record the sound? To play it to members on WAB I think you can use supload.com
Also apart from forest, is there any other habitat around? Like a lake, grassland, farmland etc?

It is difficult to imagine the sound although at that time and being close to woodland have you considered a Tawny Owl. Tawney's make some extrordinary noises and certainly we are lucky enough to be regularly disturbed by them and the sound they make is not limited to "to wit to who".

I have seen on the web that they can make high pitched squealing sounds when stressed , and we have 3 cats !!!!! |

| | | Re: Strange sound from the garden . There is a sound that tawneys make that doesn't tend to get put on the internet. Apparently it's a very very strange noise that is only made for a very limited time in the year. My bet is still with tawney. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
