| | | Britains extinct species Hey guys
Could some of you try to post some of the species is Britain that were driven to extinction by modern man?
I'm trying to get my head around this "rewilding" scheme they propose to do in the lake district and northern Scotland if they get permission.
Personally if think its a great idea and a great contribution to our natural heritage as we've lost so many of our large mammals. I don't really promote starting it in the next few years but it would be better if people could focus on preserving or expanding our country side. Also it doesn't seem like there is enough room in Britain; they want to get 450 lynx in the lake district and i didn't even though lynx were ever native! This could also present a threat to walkers and ramblers but i suppose there could be solutions . I hope it does go on nonetheless and i would tell them to put wild boar on their "adding list" but i guess they've introduced themselves
Hopefully if all goes well we can go back to walking in the woods rather than a man made garden.
It sounds like a wonderful idea and ,although its unlikely, i hope it goes ahead!
If any of you would like to post your views on this feel free!
Just feel free to write any extinct species and write your views on rewilding.

| | | Re: Britains extinct species At invertebrate level, I'd like to see the return of Large Tortoiseshell butterflies. I know we get the odd migrant, but it'd be great to see them back here and breeding.
After the great storm of 1953, the Dainty Damselfly was lost. This would be a smashing little odonate to see back in Essex.

oh and James it's right you say there important parts of a river system because many salmon farmers believe they will reduce Atlantic salmon populations by blocking rivers when actually Salmon usually spawn in the still water above a dam and this means they have less to go and dont die on the way.

| | | Re: Britains extinct species Wow so many of the large animals went extinct. Wouldn't it be great if we could go back in time to when Britain had never been discovered see unbroken forests and meadows with all these deer, lynx, bears and other animals on your doorstep. It would be wonderful.

No, it naturally recolonised the Norfolk site + more recently attempted to breed at RSPB Lakenheath reserve.
However there is also a plan to re-introduce these birds to other sites with work from WWT + Pensthorpe amongst others. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
