| | | Re: Identify the footprint The airfield in question is nolonger used, in the middle of mixed countryside, with plenty of woodland.. on listening to a radio piece about it, the person said tracks were in a straight line, not darting about, like a dog possibly would... I think its the visible claw issue that points towards dog.... as someone else said, would be good to think there are big cats out there |

| | | Re: Identify the footprint I'd love it to be a big cat, I really would. Unfortunately it's a dog.
The shape is all wrong for a cat. Cat prints have the toes in a row, whilst dogs' are diamond shape.
I don't have any puma prints to give a comparison, but here's some from my pet cat, Mayfield.
Mind you, if there really are big cats roaming the countryside, they must have left tracks in the snow somewhere this week...

| | | Re: Identify the footprint Hi.
My first post here, I was looking here to identify some tracks I have seen, the one in the OP looks exactly like a dog to me.
Just to let you know.. and I'm sure I'm going to get ripped for this... I have seen a big black cat in the midlands, so I know they exist.
Badgerwatchingman, I have been trying to find prints from a big cat in the snow this week, I may have seen some, but I'm not about to post them here as they are not definate by any means. I don't need to prove they exist to myself and I'm not interested in proving them to anyone who doesn't believe already. |

Hi Glovepuppet
Welcome to the web site, I am sure there must be some escapee big cats so I would hope nobody rubbishes your sighting. However I do think a lot of sightings are miss identified due to light, lack of knowledge or wishful thinking.
People that respond to threads are only offering an opinion and myself included accept that we may be wrong. It is very difficult to offer an opinion based on a photograph as identification relies on shape of footprint, softness of ground, pattern of prints and time of year.
For me I use the site to share information, seek advice or just to communicate with people that share my interest, but never to prove to anyone. I look forward to your further posts.
Roy
Please do not let
