| | | Your perfect wildlife day. During these cold, dark winter evenings, I often dream of what my perfect wildlife day would be.
Mine would run something like this.
To rise before dawn, shower and get to somewhere before the dawn chorus.
Have a picnic breakfast, and sit watching the insects warm their wings up.
A long country walk on chalk downland or alongside a river that has stacks of wildlife, too much to take in.
To find a tucked away country pub for a Ploughmans Lunch.
After this, walking down to through a landslip and woodland that has so many species of birds and butterflies and insects it takes your breath away.
Down to the sea where there is a small cove, with many rock-pools to peer into.
Have an ice-cream.
To walk on until the evening along cliffs and looking out for sea birds, dragonflies and flowers.
To a small bay where the is a little seaside chippy, where you can get big fat chips that the gulls pester you for.
To sit on the sea wall until the sun disappears.
Ahh!
Roll on summer.

It doesn't need to end there though, you could sit outside with a torch or moth trap until the wee small hours. |

Either that or spending a weekend on skomer where you're invited to stay in huts, bring your own alcohol and help with birdcount. They even helicopter you there rather than go over the sounds

I dream of fantastic days out and they are nearly always based around the New Forest and the deer. We often get there to see the sunrise and take a picnic breakfast and walk miles but dont last until sunset usually too tired unfortunately but the reason I am telling you this is that even in winter you can make dreams come true and I did today it was magical.
We set of in time for sunrise in the Forest with snow all around, we borrowed a friends land rover as cars would not have got where we went due to the snow. We walked miles and it was incredible scenery. One minute it was sunny and the next huge snowstorm. The snow was so dry and as you walked it sprayed ahead of your shoes. I was too hot in all my gear it was weird never been in snow where your feet dont eventually get cold. It was so peaceful with virtually no one around just nature. We had hot soup for our picnic. I even fed the wild birds from my hand they came and sat on my fingertips because they were so hungry.
Definately a day to dream about for years to come
