| | | Lincolnshire BAP For those members located in Lincolnshire, who haven't already completed the Lincolnshire Biodiversity Action Plan Questionnaire. I've included the link to it here if you feel you might like to take part (only one week remaining!!): http://www.lincsbap.org/info/questionnaire.php
I quote from the site: "We would like to know how you feel about biodiversity (plants, animals and their habitats). This will help us to make informed decisions for future conservation efforts".
I'm sure there must be similar questionnaires for other parts of the country. So please take part if there are.
It all helps!
Cheers

Can't say I've ever seen one of these in the Warwickshire area

I know there are some things going on a Waters Edge at Barton, so try their website. As we've discussed before though, this is rather a limited area as far as getting involved in conservation goes..
When you said about the local paper, I'm thinking you mean the piece about the tourism officer moaning about the increasing salt marsh, and how it should be curtailed because it's eating up the beach? Looks like English Nature wont let them coz huge parts of the Humber Estuary are designated SSSI......haha. You'd think they'd realize that in winter time, many birdwatcher bring much needed capital to the area because of the species that end of the resort attracts! |

| | | Re: Lincolnshire BAP I have sent them an email about how to get further involved and await there reply i wasn't thinking about a paid job, more of if i can help in any other way, such as helping research in to what species live where etc!
Yes i was talking about the salt marshes, IMO its a great thing if we have a good salt marsh area, afterall Cleethorpes is an estuary, not a beach. If the council managed it correctly we could have a wonderful nature reserve area, that would attract loads of people. But they'd rather have the summer day trippers than spend the money to do it |

BioAl | Tell them not to abandon Species Action Plans it helps me a lot in my work in getting appropriate levels of mitigation if there are both SAPs and HAPS. Many local ones only have HAPs assuming that if you improve the habitats the species will come on their own which is partially true but doesn't help me much as a lever |

So then although a heronries are not particularly protected nor are herons in the national BAP species, as heronries are illustrated as important in the local BAP I can use this to inform for mitigation or simply to illustrate to a client why such things are important.
There's rarely an opportunity to create an expanse of wet woodland or heathland for example, but we might be able to get some owl boxes up, create some hibernacula for reptiles and amphibians or include a few wader scrapes for the lapwing if these things are relevant to species in the local BAP | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
