| | | Home made fats balls / hangers again.. I've done it again.. (further to http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...oncoction.html) this time i've done the same as all the other times.. messed around with the recipee..
Ingredients were thrown into a bucket (except the lard)
500grams of Lard melted into a big pan, then add all 1/3rd of ingediants (measured with measuring jug). Mix and then either 'ball' up or put into containers..
Total ingredients are... although done 1/3rd at a time to save on mess.
1.5kg lard
1.5kg plain flower
1.5kg porridge oats
full measuring jug peanuts
full measuring jug sunflower seeds
The results (this is the last of the 3 mixes) The cartons are the yogart and drink things left over from the kids pack-ups and kept for this purpose...

The recipe is spot on and if you can grind the peanuts up then even better. I wanted to and may nip into grantham to get a cheap blender from argos.
They are sticky and not that easy to ball but the more you work them the easier it is, for this bit best to go outside with them still warm. Once done they set really hard, the birds don't have too much problem with them though. The starlings flock for it as do the jackdaws, sparrows, blackbirds and doves etc.. the tits and finches tend to prefer the plain sunflower hearts.
One word of advice. With the yogart pots etc best to thread the sting in before making them up | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
