6 find something really rare that no-one has seen in that area before

However, my husband drives buses out of the Aviemore garage, he often starts just after 6am. On one early run last summer up to the Cairngorm Mountain carpark, about halfway up he saw a Wildcat run across the road into a grassy area, and stop for a few seconds before disappearing into the undergrowth. |

I've read just about every book i can find on the subject and been in contact with several people that regularly see them on their land etc, and are happy to help when i get up there, so hopefully over the years with a bit (lot) of effort i'll be lucky.
If not then i'll have to make do with being in the worlds most beautiful country as a consolation prize |

| | | Re: Targets for 2009 Hadn't really though about setting targets, but this thread has made me think a bit.
Have had a desire to see Capercallie lekking for a while now and a couple of trips to Scotland are already organised this year, so fingers crossed. Hopefully should see quite a lot of other things whilst there too.
Had a couple of injuries in the latter half of 08, so getting hill fit again is a priority and has given me a bit of a wakeup call that some of the big hill trips I'd like to do shouldn't be put off for too much longer. Might try and do the Rum Cuillin traverse this year and include a wildcamp up with the Manx Shearwaters on Trollaval.
Otherwise try to make more of what's on the doorstep. There are 2-3 Wildlife Trust reserves very close by and I rarely visit them, though they probably aren't the most exiting reserves around, but never the less. I also know there are Badgers very close to home (seen in the street a couple of times!), but have never tracked the sett down, so maybe a bit of effort required to locate and see them a little closer.
Anyway, best of luck to everyone in 2009 |

| | | Re: Targets for 2009 Same old for me and the family - to identify a thousand species of this that and the other - hopefully with plenty of new and delightful stuff. We try and get to a hundred different locations in a year too as it keeps us on the look out for new sites. Combine this with promoting punk rock and trying to see over 50 NEW bands as well as attending 50 gigs and with a family too I should be busy again. Better than doing nowt though. Good luck to all with their quests.
