| | | Thames Estuary wetlands to be returned to 'Charles Dickens' wilderness' Here is some good news that will unite Essex and Kent WABers .... Thames Estuary wetlands to be returned to 'Charles Dickens' wilderness' - Telegraph
I am not sure about the descriptions "nature park" and eco quarter" but if this project adds to the creation and restoration of estuary habitat, then it is definitlely good news .
On our (better ) side of the water, we have already seen the new RSPB reserves at Vange Marshes, Canvey West Marshes and Rainham Marsh and there is a proposed new RSPB visitor centre at Wat Tyler Country Park in Pitsea (my local patch).
It seems from the announcement last week that we can look forward to further "green" investment in the Thames Gateway .

Im a bit skeptical about these 'green' businesses, sounds like an excuse to build on green belt to me....I guess we ll see |

Seriously though this does sound like good news and I really hope there's more to it than just a news story. The RSPB's plans to turn Cliffe Pools into a flagship reserve have been delayed because of the Olympics sucking all the cash away from far more worthwhile pursuits so maybe this could breathe some life back into them.

Dave P. | Though that might get a reaction .... holds breath and waits for further backlash from other Kent WABers .
More seriously, lets hope that this benefits both sides of the river since the wildlife does not recognise Essex and Kent boundaries, and that it includes plans for Cliffe which I have visited many times.

Keep the faith .... and lets hope there are a few green lungs in our over-developed part of the world.

| | | Re: Thames Estuary wetlands to be returned to 'Charles Dickens' wilderness' Sounds good on the face of it but I am a bit sceptical when the two most prominent people in the article are the housing minister and a top ranking archiect, strange people to be in charge of creating a wilderness. I hope for the best and will watch with interest.

Keith | I agree with you on this and hope all of us with this view are being unfair because the area really needs this...fingers crossed. |

| | | Re: Thames Estuary wetlands to be returned to 'Charles Dickens' wilderness' That is good news,I just wonder if the site also includes Benfleet creek-between Canvey and the seawall at Benfleet through to Leigh.Mind you there is talk of creating a cycle/footpath along the seawall that will eventually extend from Southend to London.According to artists impressions in the local Echo, these paths will be made of wood-like a broad walk!!
Not sure if I would like that as it takes away the feeling of being in the country.....
