Within easy range of Stoke-on-Trent is Beeston in Cheshire (Near Tarporley) just need to go to the point where the A 49 crosses the Shropshire Union Canal and passes beneath the Crewe to Chester Railway, visit at the right time and you will see little green glows!

I understand that there are glowworms in the area of the old Churnet Valley Railway near Alton Towers.
Best times?dates for looking are after 2330 from around 20th June to 20th July. Mid-summer night should be ideal! |

Used to see quite a few glow worms around the small village of Caudle Green near where I used to live and also think there were some around Stroud commons but don't know if they're still about. Isn't it just the males that glow or something?

One of the best sites in the country is along the old railway between Ashchurch and Tewkesbury ..... I believe that this colony usually has the greatest number. It is the female that glows. |
