| | | Re: Who shares your home? Umpteen spiders/woodlice/earwigs/beetles/butterflies and moths etc. Plenty of mice of various species and even occasionally a rat. Brown long -eared bats (in the false ceiling above the spare bedroom) and pipistrelles (above the kitchen). Jackdaws (unused chimney stacks) starlings and house sparrows (in the roof), great-crested newts (I kid you not) in the cellar. Blue tits and wrens (in gaps in the stonework in the walls which are 2ft thick ironstone). Oh and a kestrel usually roosts on one of the stone mullion windows in the winter time.
Then there's me and hubby, dog and cat (who wishes he could catch the bats but he has no chance).
PS that's just the house!

| Is he a particularly lazy cat, then? Because some cats can be dreadful bat killers.

| | | Re: Who shares your home? Our garden is shared with countless Goldfinches,Chaffinches,Greenfinches,Sparrows,Star lings,Collared Doves Woodpigeons,Jackdaws,Blackbirds Bluetits,Coaltits,a Wren and a Robin.
Snails, beetles, woodlice infact anything in moderation, is ,in the main welcome.
We also have Sparrows which nest in the eaves.
When it comes to indoors though,it's a case of once found, evicted. In the nicest possible way ofcourse. |

| | | Re: Who shares your home? Spiders, sometimes found in the cupboards in utility room, and also live in the rabbit shed and hutches and the dog kennel. Mice in the loft, but there are traps up there. Rats get shot (they steal the birds food and cannot take the risk as they carry lepto and I have a dog) Mice outside usually get left alone as the owls get them. I had a vole but think the barn owl came for takeout. Wild rabbits were left alone but they have now died due to myxi, pheasants and partridges come into the garden for food and everything stops 'til they've eaten and left when they want to (the dog has to wait if he needs a wee) Nest boxes for the birds and again if they are feeding everything has to wait (early morning and early afternoon they feed) and I have brought home birds from work to release in the garden and the wren has built a nest in the robin box in the dog run. The hedgehog does his own thing, but did get caught in the rat trap, but was released. The leaves I was clearing away have all been left in case the hedgehog has decided to hibernate in them as he was last seen near them and at the time seen paddling in dog pee (the dog had been out seconds before) and yesterday I found something has been eating some dog poo...any ideas what? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
